What makes this product special:
Once upon a time there was a forest man – or "orang utan" – in the northern highlands of Sumatra. He was also called the gardener of the rainforest, because wherever he moved, he broke rotten branches from the canopy. As more sunlight reached the forest floor, the seeds of the fruits eaten by the orangutan germinated and flourished along its path.
Orang Utan Coffee
Today, the orangutan, so perfectly in tune with its habitat, is threatened with extinction. Merciless logging and devastating forest fires are destroying its home. Coffee farmers are also losing their livelihoods as the tropical rainforests disappear.
We do not want to and will not accept this. That’s why we donate €0.50 per kilogram of exported green coffee to the Sumatra Orang Utan Protection Program (SOCP) of the Swiss foundation PanEco – and another €0.50 directly to smallholder farmers in the region. This enables them to follow conservation guidelines, refrain from deforestation, and protect endangered species.
Tropical Mountains SUMATRA Espresso/Lungo Coffee Capsules: Single Origin Coffee
For our SUMATRA coffee, we use only green coffee from the Orang Utan Coffee Project in Indonesia. By purchasing their gourmet coffee directly and without intermediaries, we support coffee farmers from our network and community – ensuring a fair and secure income.
Compostable Capsule Alternatives for the Nespresso®* System
Our coffee capsules conserve natural resources. Both the capsules and their packaging are made from purely natural materials. Since aluminium is deliberately avoided, the capsules and packaging are fully biodegradable.
Zero Waste
We consistently pursue the idea of zero waste (no waste). The 21-count capsule containers can be refilled repeatedly. For this purpose, we offer the refill bag available in two different sizes. The used bags can be reused in many ways or collected and returned to us for reuse.**

The Story of Tropical Mountains
Tropical Mountains began in 2012 as a small coffee farm deep in the Peruvian highlands, 12 hours by car from Lima. Peru-born Gisella Iriarte and Swiss entrepreneur Thomas Schwegler shared a vision: coffee grown with care, complete transparency from origin to cup, and a company built on respect and responsibility.
Over time, we have expanded our range to include exceptional gourmet coffees from trusted partners around the world. And while Tropical Mountains continues to grow, we remain true to our roots: building long-term relationships throughout the entire supply chain and dedicating ourselves to producing outstanding coffee – with curiosity, care, and a commitment to sustainability.
Today, we are proud to be a certified B Corporation – part of a global movement that uses business as a force for good. We support local communities, improve education in coffee-growing regions, and fund meaningful, sustainable projects.
Respect Makes Coffee Taste Better
We show respect for people, coffee plants, and the planet. That’s why we offset all CO₂ emissions across our supply chain and continuously work to reduce our ecological footprint. Our family is growing – but our values remain the same.
