The KCU is the oldest Fairtrade cooperative in Tanzania and Africa. It is a voluntary association of 141 primary cooperatives representing over 60,000 small-scale farmers. The KCU's Robusta raw coffee is cultivated in the Kagera region west of Lake Victoria.

The Story of Tropical Mountains

The journey of Tropical Mountains began in 2012 as a small farm located 12 hours away from Lima, Peru. Gisella Iriarte from Peru and Thomas Schwegler from Switzerland dreamt of organic and fair-trade coffee – traceable from the bean in the tropical highlands to the aromatic cup at home.

As Tropical Mountains evolves, we remain firmly rooted in our principles: organic farming, direct fair trade, and sustainable packaging. We are a member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), support local schools, and finance charitable projects. We believe that respect creates the excellent taste of our coffee. Respect for our employees, the coffee plant, and nature as a whole. That's why we also offset the CO2 emissions from our value chain. Our family is growing, but our values remain the same.
