Our B Corp certification: Why it means more to us than just a label
Our B Corp Certification
As Managing Director of Tropical Mountains, I look back on our B Corp certification in March 2025 with great pride.
For me and our company, this recognition means far more than just another seal. It is written confirmation of the sustainable and responsible way of doing business that we have lived by since our founding.
Why the B Corp Certification Is So Important to Me

The Challenging Path to Certification
I have to say honestly that the certification process was anything but easy. The biggest challenge for us lay in the structure of the questionnaire. Many of the points it contained were strongly geared toward larger, more traditionally structured companies, which created a certain hurdle for us as a differently positioned company.
Despite these obstacles, we went through the multi-stage assessment process, which examined all of our business practices in five key areas: governance, workers, community, environment and customers.
For several months, we worked to transparently document and verify every aspect of our company.
Our Exceptional Impact Score of 111 Points
The result makes me especially proud: We achieved a B Impact Score of 111.1 points. This is well above the required minimum score of 80 and more than twice as high as the median score of ordinary businesses, which is 50.9 points.
This assessment shows me that the sustainable practices we have lived by for years have a measurable impact.
We performed particularly strongly in the areas of community (35.7 points) and environment (33.5 points). The Impact Business Model for "Supply Chain Poverty Alleviation" earned us an additional 12.5 points and recognizes our direct, fair trading relationships with coffee farmers in Peru, Colombia, Indonesia and Brazil.

What Our B Corp Certification Means for Our Customers
For our customers, buying from Tropical Mountains as a B Corp certified company means verified assurance. The certification confirms that we meet high standards in the areas of social responsibility, environmental performance, transparency and accountability. These standards are reviewed again every three years, ensuring continuous quality.
Sustainability has been a central part of our work from the very beginning. This ranges from organically grown coffee and fair partnerships with coffee farmers to 100% compostable capsules. As a member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), our customers can be sure that their coffee has been produced under fair conditions.
We offset the CO2 emissions of the entire value chain and offer full transparency and traceability, from the bean in the tropical highlands to the fragrant cup at home. Our customers receive not only excellent coffee, but can also enjoy it with a good conscience.
My Hopes for the B Corp Community
What I hope for from the B Corp community is an active exchange and the opportunity to connect with each other also on a business level. The community offers a valuable platform for sharing knowledge, learning from one another and openly communicating common challenges and goals.
I would like to see formats and events that encourage exactly this kind of exchange, such as practical workshops, themed evenings or small industry meetings. The goal should be to openly share both best practices and obstacles and to develop solutions together.

A Promise for the Future
With the B Corp certification, I commit myself and our entire company to continuously questioning and improving our impact, for a future in which companies are part of the solution. For us, the certification is not the end of a journey, but the beginning of an even deeper engagement with our impact.
My thanks go to our team, our partners and our customers. You are an essential part of this journey.
Together, we show that responsible business is not only possible, but can also be economically successful. As a B Corp certified company, we stand for a new way of doing business that combines profit and purpose.
